Five of award-winning auteur Satyajit Ray’s films will hit cinemas next year after undergoing digital restoration. The films, including 'Charulata', 'Nayak', 'Kapurush O Mahapurush', 'Joy Baba Felunath' and 'Mahanagar', will be screened by the PVR chain in January.
Speaking about the development, Shiladitya Bora from the multiplex chain said: “The new generation has mostly just heard of Ray's works or seen it on the small screen.

A theatrical release will be a dream come true for all cinephiles. We will start with Mahanagar in January 2014.”
The films have been digitally restored by RDB Entertainment, the producers of the original films. Varsha Bansal of the company said, “It took us about one-and a-half years to restore these films."
The films will be played in around 12 to 15 screens in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore , Ahmedabad and Pune. When contacted Satyajit Ray’s son Sandip told this newspaper, “I am really happy that these films have been restored and I hope they do well at the box office.”
