Gurinder will now direct Shabana in her forthcoming film, It's a Wonderful Afterlife.
Gurinder had last directed the British comedy, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, which is about teen angst and sex talk. Although it was well received in the UK, Gurinder has been keen to direct another film on Indians based in the UK .
Like everybody, Gurinder has also been a long-time admirer of Shabana's acting prowess. It's a Wonderful Afterlife will have Shabana play a Britain-based hysterical Punjabi mother who is on the look-out for a suitable match for her daughter.
Although Gurinder and Shabana are talking about the project, a source says, "Gurinder wrote the central character in It's a Wonderful Afterlife only for Shabana."
It's a Wonderful Afterlife starts off as a festive film and takes a bizarre serial-killing turn midway.
Shabana is scheduled to go to the UK in March to start shooting for Gurinder's film.
