The Parineeti Chopra-starrer murder mystery 'The Girl On The Train' will ditch a theatrical release, and open directly on a streaming service, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
Directed by
Ribhu Dasgupta, the film that is a Hindi remake of the Hollywood blockbuster, which is based on Paula Hawkins' 2015 bestseller of the same name. The film that was due to release theatrically in May 2020, will premiere on a digital platform on February 26.
"I always wanted to explore this genre and loved this unique story.
There is plenty to relate to both in terms of the emotions and mysteries that I was able to delve into in this thriller -- rejection, loneliness, voyeurism, daily commutes on which we see and don't see things. It was an extremely fruitful experience working on the film. (I) Hope the audience will be as excited watching 'The Girl On The Train' as I was, while making it," Ribhu said in a statement to IANS.
The Hollywood thriller directed by Tate Taylor featured
Emily Blunt in the lead role.
The film follows the story of Meera (Parineeti), who fixates on the perfect lives of a couple from afar, during her daily train commutes. Parineeti will play an alcoholic divorcee who ultimately becomes involved in a missing person's investigation.
Set in the UK, the film will also star
Aditi Rao Hydari,
Kirti Kulhari and Avinash Tiwari.
Following the teaser release, Parineeti's cousin,
Priyanka Chopra shared the clip on her Instagram stories and wrote, "Proud of my girl. Can't wait to see more."
