Kanchana Moitra has realized that performing on stage before a live audience is a different high all together. Says the actor, “Being part of a programme titled “Nidhubabur Gaan” gave me a first-hand experience of a live audience. I played Srimoti, while Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee was Nidhubabu and what a convincing performance it was! The show dealt with the relationship shared between the two.
Riddhi Bandopadhyay enthralled with her renditions.”
Ask her about the audience reaction post her performance and Kanchana reminisces, “There was this tough scene following which Srimoti commits suicide. It was a one-page scene, so intense that by the time I was over with it, I broke down. Believe me as soon as I finished, the audience showered me with thunderous applause. Such a response from a live audience was a first for me.”
Says Sujoy, “I played the character of Nidhubabu. It was very challenging as very little is known about his personal life except the fact that here was a man of sixty in love with the concubine of a zamindar, Srimoti, played by Kanchana. Nidhubabu is an unsung poet and composer and the programme brought alive his life and times. Hats off to the performers especially Riddhi, who not only enthralled the audience with her toppas, but did the entire research on Nidhubabu.”
