And its superhit songs, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, The Lonely Goatherd and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, that are hummable even today? Well, the musical’s about to stage a comeback...
but on the Mumbai theatre stage, with Delna Modi playing the funny, irascible Maria and Dalip Tahil, who’s making his own comeback to theatre, acting as the grim and forbidding Captain Georg Von Trapp whose children need disciplining.
The play is being presented by Raell Padamsee in association with The Times of India. “We thought The Sound of Music would strike a chord with audiences even today. And it was the perfect way to tap the tremendous singing talent in the city,” explained Raell.
As a result, over 200 kids from mainstream schools and NGOs across the city perform together in this stage version that is directed by Advait Hazarat and has special appearances by Lucky Morani and Darius Shroff. The Sound of Music will be staged at the Tata Theatre, NCPA, Nariman Point from January 26 to 29 at 7. 30 pm. And on January 30, at 4 and 7.30 pm.
