Arpita Chakraborty: Omkar Kapoor was the first choice for my song

Singer Arpita Chakraborty is known for her songs in films such as ‘Ragini MMS 2’, ‘Satyagraha’, ‘Hero’ and ‘Total Dhamaal’, among others. She recently released a single, which stars Omkar Kapoor and Ana.
Fortunately, the team completed the shoot for the music video just before the lockdown was implemented. Talking about the song, Arpita says, “‘Makhmali’ is a romantic and groovy ballad that you can dance to.For the first time, I handled a crew of about 300-400 people. It was truly an incredible experience.”
Director Prasad Kadam went for the 70s and 80s gangster-era look in the video. “Prasad has done a fantastic job executing the video in the exact way that he envisioned it. Arpita has sung the melodious track beautifully,” says Omkar.
The team took time before zeroing in the lead pair for the video. “Omkar was the first choice when we were looking for a hero in the video. We wanted somebody who could portray romance, emote, dance and also be the gangster that we wanted in the song. We met a lot of actors, but when we saw Omkar, the director, the executive producer and everyone in the team including me, knew he was the one. For the female lead, I auditioned about 70 models and they all were very talented. We had a tough time selecting one because we were looking for someone, who had great dancing skills. We shortlisted 10 girls for the look test. Post that, we selected Ana. She’s been a jazz and ballet dancer, and has made the entire dance sequence look effortless,” says Arpita.
