Colour Blind beads in a few misshapen pearls from Tagore’s long and winding journey of life.
His childhood or what he himself quirkily termed the ‘servocracy’ period, his restless and conflicted youth, his writings and their myriad inspirations, his controversial and achingly beautiful relationship with Victoria O Campo in the autumn of his life. And with these, his thick-skinned yet faithful companion, Death, that not once left his side. 12th October Play: Jug Jug Jiyo | Time: 6pm & 8pm| Dir: Smita Bharti | Cast: Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari, Meeta Vashishtha, Amit Dolawat and Jyotsana Sharma. Jug Jug Jiyo is a story of two childhood friends, widows for all appearances, living and sharing a small house in a small town – Samyukta and Simran. Samyukta runs a morgue, and Simran runs her son’s life. Samyukta’s daughter, Sia, and Simran’s son, Siraj, childhood sweethearts, are in a live-in relationship unknown to their mothers, and are visiting their mothers from Mumbai on the night the play opens.
One small confrontation between Sia and Siraj starts revealing the secrets that Simran and Samyukta have carefully concealed for last three decades. Soon only shards of broken relationships litter the stage. 18th October Play: Dastan Goopi Bagha Ki | Time: 7.30pm| Dir: Mahmood Farooqui | Cast: Fouzia & Valentina Trivedi. Dastan Goopi Bagha Ki attempts to capture the essence of the story of two of the most popular Satyajit Ray characters – Goopi the singer and Bagha the drummer. Their antics and their transformation from being simple village bumpkins to musicians who hold their audience spellbound, forms the crux of the story. 19th October Play: Boiled Beans On Toast| Time: 4.30pm & 7pm| Dir: Lillete Dubey | Cast: Joy Sengupta, Meenal Patel, Deepika Amin, Avantika Akerkar, Maneesh Verma, Swati Das, Avnish Mehra, Gillian Pinto and Divya Unny. Boiled Beans On Toast traces the interwoven lives of half-a-dozen people who have opted to live in the city of Bengaluru. Starting from under a single roof, these lives branch out in diverse directions, get entangled in the swirl of life outside where they lose track of themselves, separate or unexpectedly collide and careen off each other.
