International Day of Yoga is observed every year to celebrate the many physical, spiritual, and mental merits of Yoga. World over, yoga has seeped in as a primary discipline of physical activity with many western countries, especially, embracing and giving it cultural recognition with wide-open arms. For actors too, yoga has proven to be a life-altering device with the likes of Dr.
Rajkumar and
Rajinikanth taking it up at crucial junctures of their respective lives. Quite similarly, yoga has been an instrumental form of routine for Radhika Narayan all along and she has even taken things forward by turning instructor during the course.
"My grandfather was a yoga instructor so we were compelled to practice it as kids but I guess it was always a part of me. I was kinda fascinated with having those perfect abs during college so I would end up doing at least 10 Surya Namaskars on a daily basis. Even now, I could probably go without practicing yoga for not more than 3-4 days at a stretch and I start feeling a little weird about myself," says Radhika Narayan about her initiation into yoga.
And as one of the fittest actors in the industry, Radhika's 6-year journey showcases a consistent physical improvement that sets new standards for her contemporaries. During the final days of her college, Radhika even took things a notch further and took up a post-graduation in yoga sciences which she feels has contributed immensely to her well-being. "I have never stepped inside a gym or worked out in conventional ways because I have always only sincerely practiced yoga. And having done it for so long, I know that yoga has added so much to my vitality and well-being - I would hardly fall sick while growing up and I had a lot of energy to spare as well. I guess at some later point, I felt like digging deeper and understanding the spiritual side to yoga which everyone talks about so passionately. That's when I decided to pursue yoga more seriously and took up a course - I was even able to turn instructor a few times," adds the 'RangiTaranga' actor.
And while the merits of practicing yoga are available all over the internet, Radhika Narayan still refrains from over glorifying it and urges the public to go for it of its own will. "There are many obvious merits like a vast improvement in breathing or even the mental side of it but I would still suggest everyone take up yoga only when they feel like it. But I can vouch for the fact that yoga has helped me, personally, to never over-indulge in food or binge eat for any reason. I don't particularly get those food cravings but even when I do, I am able to ward them off," asserts the young actor.
On the work front, Radhika Narayan currently looks forward to the release of her film 'Chase' and will also reprise her role as Janani in 'Shivaji Surathkal 2' which is yet to go on floors.
