Malayalam legend
Mammootty completed 50 years at the movies very recently and the whole internet rejoiced over the actor's grand milestone. From his peers such as
Prithviraj Sukumaran and
Mohanlal to millions of fans across the world, congratulatory messages came pouring in for Mammootty who gleefully accepted all the love and later responded with gratitude. One such display of affection came from one of his former co-stars, and current Member of Parliament, Sumalatha Ambareesh who took to Twitter earlier today to congratulate Mammootty on his staggering career and also wish him many more successful years at the business.
"@mammukka Wishing you many more successful years, you deserve all the accolades and you certainly don't need any more awards to validate your skill/strength at your craft, thanks to Google found a few images of movies out of so many movies we had done, Stay blessed always," wrote Sumalatha Ambareesh in her wee-hour tweet.
And responding to the kind words, Mammootty left a short but sweet "thank you" through a tweet.
Mammootty's debut came in the year 1971 with K.S. Sethumadhavan's 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal' and fared mostly as a supporting act through the '70s. It was the '80s when he established himself as a lead actor and found commercial success through the film 'New Delhi', which incidentally also stars Sumalatha Amabareesh. The two, having first acted together in 'Munnettam' in 1981, went on to star together in close to 15 films with many of them proving to be critical and commercial successes alike.
A multilingual actor, Mammootty ventured into Tamil cinema quite early on and found similar fame as in Malayalam. His debut in Kannada Cinema came about in 2012 with the bilingual 'Shikari'.
