Bangalore girl Suman Ranganathan, who made her Tamil film debut with Pudhu Pattu in 1990, is now returning to Kollywood with Ajith's much-awaited Aarambam, in which she plays a tough journalist. It is said that Suman got the offer to do the film while she was away in Bali on holiday. The script was actually narrated to her over the phone. It is said that the actress was initially hesitant about doing the movie, but when the makers revealed her that the film has stars like Ajit and Aarya, she decided to do it.

Suman made her film debut with a Telugu movie, and gradually moved on to the Kannada and Tamil film industries. Later, she stepped into Hindi films.
