Many people carry out small rituals before embarking on something new. These are often personal or religious practices that have sentimental value and, hence, are important. Actors and filmmakers of namma Sandalwood are no different from others when it comes to the special rituals that they conduct on or before the release-day of their films. To know a little more about these quirky practices, we spoke to actor
Ganesh, actor-filmmaker
Rishab Shetty and filmmaker
Dayal Padmanabhan.
And, here’s what they have to say...
All my films have their premiere shows on Thursday: Rishab ShettyNot Friday, but Thursday is when Rishab Shetty prefers his movies to have a premiere on. “I am a Raghavendra Swamy devotee, and consider Thursdays to be auspicious. Even the release day for most of my films is Thursday, which is also the same for the muhurtha ceremony and the beginning of film shoot. This remains unless a particular Thursday is not auspicious for certain reason,” he explains.
I always wear blue on the day my movie releases: GaneshAlthough Ganesh does not follow any ritual as such, the actor is particular about what colour he wears on the day his film hits the theatre. “I don’t have any superstitions, but there is a pattern that I follow. On release day, if I am going to the theatre to watch my film, I wear black, blue or white. This was something I had done for my first film and then for Mungaru Male, too,” he says.
The rituals I carry out are more religious than sentimental: Dayal PadmanabhanDayal Padmanabhan has a specific four-step ritual that he conducts ahead of his films’ release. “I always hold the premiere show three days before the movie’s release, particularly on a Tuesday, as I consider it my lucky day. I align my release dates with numbers one and five. Being an Anjaneya Swamy devotee, I pray to him. I also apply vermilion from a Meru Chakra (a Vedic geometrical design that is considered a symbol of healing and abundance). More than being sentimental, these rituals stem from my religious beliefs,” he explains.
