Gurpreet Ghuggi shares why 'Son of Manjeet Singh' took two years for completion

Punjabi cinema is gradually shifting towards more substantial scripts and concepts. As a step in the same direction, Kapil Sharma and Gurpreet Ghuggi’s movie ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’ is ready to hit the screen tomorrow, i.e. on 12th October. Based on the beautiful father and son bond, the movie is the debut Punjabi production of Kapil Sharma, and Gurpreet Ghuggi is being featured in the lead.The shooting of the film went on the floor in 2016, and the same is being released in the third last month of 2018. In an exclusive word with ETimes, Gurpreet Ghuggi shared what led to this stretch and also gave some beautiful messages on parenting.
More than the shooting, it was the script that took time
Generally the making and releasing of a Punjabi movie don’t take much time. However, the case with ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’ was tad different. Talking about why did the movie took so long to come out Gurpreet Ghuggi said, “Since this was such a beautiful and sensitive topic, we handled it with utmost care. Whenever came a point where we felt that the script is giving way more leverage to the child or the father and thus, is going in a wrong direction, we stopped right there. We first sorted that particular issue and then went ahead with the shoot.”
Elaborating more on the same, Gurpreet also said, “More than the shooting, it was the script that took time. We wanted to present a balanced view to the audience and thus took our own sweet time in penning something that was worth watching”.
Besides the scripts, some prior work commitments of Gurpreet Ghuggi also kept him busy, so he wasn’t able to contribute a couple of months in a stretch to the movie. However, when he came back on the sets, he made sure not to leave any stone unturned.

Since the movie ‘Son Of Manjeet Singh’ is all about the journey of a father and son, it has a lot of parenting tips and messages to share. Being a father himself, during our candid conversation, Gurpreet Ghuggi couldn’t help but share a beautiful message. The actor said, “If a parent keeps on saying that my kid is not understanding me at all, he or she needs to look inside and ask, what wrong am I doing that my child is unable to understand me. We simply keep telling our kids that you have to listen to us, you have to do what we say, but do we take the effort of explaining it to them that why they need to listen to us?”
In the movie, Gurpreet's son wants to be a cricketer, whereas Ghuggi wants him to study and take some conventional job. Talking about the same and the competitive era the kids are surrounded with, Gurpreet said, “This competition has also been created by us, and then the pressure of the same is being pressed on the kids. If you accept the competitive era, accept the phenomenon of kids doing drugs as well, that also is a part of society. Just because something exists in the society, it doesn’t mean it has to be correct.”
