Actress
Abarnathi, who is playing the lead in Vasantabalan’s Jail, is headlining Mayaputhagam, which also stars
Srikanth and
Ashok. The film is a fantasy that revolves around a legend about cobras, and is directed by Ramajayaprakash.
“I believe that cobras are just another life form, but vessels for souls between their many births. In my film, only the souls that are in cobras can take birth repeatedly, and the story revolves around one such soul and the kind of characters whom it crosses between different generations,” says the director, who has completed shooting the film and is busy with the post-production work.
Talking about why he chose Abarnathi for the central character, he says, “I wanted someone who had a classical look and can also do action. I was also looking for an actress who could capture the body language of a cobra in their performance. We did a test shoot with several actresses and Abarnathi performed the best among those we tested.”
Srikanth will appear in a period portion in the film that takes places during the times of kings. “His character is like that of a Chanakya and will possess both physical and mental agility,” states the director.
Ashok will be seen as a film director, belonging to the current generation. "He comes across a book on a legend and even though he doesn't believe it, he begins to make a film on it. His character arc will see him turning from a sceptic to a firm believer of the legend," he informs.
Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Lokesh, KSG Venkatesh are among the supporting cast of this film which has Ravi Vijay Anand as the music director and Arumugam as the cinematographer.
