Dhanush's Asuran proved best again this weekend as it took in as estimated Rs 4.29 crore in Chennai movie theatres, according to the industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai. The film received rave reviews from critics and going by the box office numbers, it is being liked by the film buffs too.
Starring Dhanush, Asuran is based on the famous novel Vekkai which was written by Poomani, a well-known Tamil novelist.
Last week, the film directed by Vetrimaaran set a record for an October release, taking in Rs 30 crore in its first weekend, the makers said. Asuran beat out Sivakarthikeyan's Namma Veetu Pillai, Puppy and Petromax starring Tamannaah Bhatia. The film has already emerged as Dhanus's highest grosser in its opening weekend.
Asuran, which is made on an estimated budget of Rs 16 crore, is produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu under V Creations. It also stars Manju Warrior, Ken Karunas, Teejay Arunasalam, Pasupathy, Prakash Raj, Ammu Abirami, Balaji Sakthivel, Subramaniam Siva, Aadukalam Naren and others.
