Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja is heaving a sigh of relief. And he has a good reason too. The young directors critically acclaimed debut feature Aaranya Kaandam (AK), had come under the scanner of the Censor Board for its hard-knuckled, no-holds-barred portrayal of the gangster world. But now, it seems the powers that be, have finally given the film a go-ahead.
A beaming Kumararaja says, We have been given the green signal from the Tribunal. We havent gotten the printed copy of the order confirming the same, but we have the verbal approval. I am absolutely delighted with their decision. I am grateful to the committee for helping us preserve the artistic integrity of our film. The changes they have suggested are the ones I have personally considered incorporating into the film. In fact, the jury went on to praise us for our control over the medium as well.
He adds, I am content in the feeling that our labour of love is finally set to see the light of the day. It also renewed my faith in the power of the decision-makers with respect to the film industry. If there are ample opportunities for filmmakers to present their case to those who can patiently hear them out, the craft will be in good hands.
