Pooja Hegde will be seen in the upcoming film, 'Retro', directed by
Karthik Subbaraj, starring alongside
Suriya. Throwback to the time when the actress revealed how her casting in 'Retro' came about.
During an interview with Galatta India, the 'Deva' actress shared that director Karthik Subbaraj was particularly impressed by her performance in 'Radhe Shyam' starring opposite Prabhas, especially two emotional scenes that stood out to him.
Pooja recalled asking the director what made him believe she could pull off such a role, and he explained that it was those powerful moments in 'Radhe Shyam' that convinced him she was the right fit.
She also said, "It just takes a filmmaker to put away everything else and see you for your performance in order to give you another film. That's literally how I made my career."
'Retro' marks the first-ever collaboration between Suriya and Pooja Hegde, as well as Suriya's first project with Karthik Subbaraj. The film is set in a vintage backdrop and will be a romance and high-octane action.
The teaser, unveiled on Christmas, features a touching scene on the ghats of Varanasi, where Pooja's character, dressed in a light pink sari, ties a sacred band around Suriya's wrist.
The film's cast includes Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and a special cameo by Shriya Saran.
The film is set for a worldwide release on May 1, 2025.
