In July, director
Chimbu Deven had shared with us that he’s making a film with
Yogi Babu that’s entirely set in the sea. Now, we hear that the film will be a survival thriller set in the 1940s at a time when Japan bombed Chennai.
The director says, “When the Japanese start bombing, 10 people escape into the sea on a small boat. Unexpectedly, the boat stops in the middle of the sea.
It develops a hole and begins to sink slowly. Adding to the tension is a shark in the waters. How the people on the boat escape forms the crux of the story.”
The director says selecting the location to shoot this project took four to five months, as they had to consider variations in waves, tides, and depth. “Eventually, we chose Kulasekhara patnam near Tuticorin. But shooting in the middle of the sea still proved to be a huge challenge. We even had to cancel shoot for seven days,” informs the filmmaker.
To ensure safety, they took fishermen along with them. “In fact, during the shooting, Yogi Babu slipped and fell into the sea, but surprised us with his swimming skills. This inspired me to go for realistic shots,” he states.
