One of the most handsome and respected actors of the Telugu film industry of all time and an effortless performer, Ghattamaneni Krishna turns 75 on Friday. He is one of the first male actors crowned with the superstar tag. With his brilliant acting skills and charming personality, Krishna has ruled Telugu cinema in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He also charmed us with his fabulous dance performances in films.The actor made a significant mark in the film industry with his acting chops and got the attention of Telugu filmmakers, who were eager to cast her in their films.
Well, on the occasion of his big day here's some interesting facts about the super star of Tollywood.
Krishna was born in the year 1944 to Ghattamaneni Raghavaiah Chowdary and Ghattamaneni Nagaratnamma and was named Siva Rama Krishna Ghattamaneni. His father was a farmer.
The actor started his career with V Madhusudhana Rao’s political thriller Padandi Munduku (1962), in which he had a minor role. He also had minor appearances in Kulagothralu and Paruvu Prathishta. With Tene Manasulu (1965), he was cast as one of the male leads in the film. He made his solo debut with Adurthi Subba Rao's Kanne Manasulu in 1966.
Starting his journey in filmdom with Adurthi Subba Rao's Tene Manasulu (1965) Krishna went on to become the most sought- after actor in the film industry and he remains one of those few actors, who achieved fame both in Tollywood. Interestingly, Krishna was one of the highest paid actors of his time.
After making it to the big league of finest actors of Tollywood, Krishna established his own production house Padmalaya Films and backed several high budget films such as Mosagallaku Mosagadu, Pandanti Kapuram, Devudu Chesina Manushulu, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Agnipariksha. Since then, he never looked back and he has been seen in more than 350 films with a career spanning over five decades.
The super star of Tollywood is also known for his good on-screen rapport with female actors Vijaya Nirmala, Jaya Prada and Vijayashanti, with whom he delivered some of the biggest hits of his career.
With many promising newcomers making a significant mark and a shift in the industry, Krishna’s glorious reign never stopped and he turned his attention to more serious and dramatic roles. In the 60s, 70s and 80s, Krishna gave some of her finest performances ever in films like Gudachari 116, Private Master, Manchi Kutumbam, Mosagallaki Mosagaadu, Pandanti Kapuram, Alluri Seetharama Raju, Ram Robert Rahim, Mundadugu, Simahasanam, Number one and so forth to his credit.
In a journey of more than five decades, the actor has won numerous awards and honours. Krishna has won a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award - South in 1997, NTR National Award for the year 2003 and Nandi Award for Best Actor - Alluri Sita Rama Raju (1974). He also awarded with Padma Bhushan in 2009.
