Prema Katha Chitram clocks 6 years of its release

Director Maruthi’s Prema Katha Chitram gave a fillip to the horror comedy genre on the silver screen with a whiff of freshness and hilarious comedy. Arguably, this is one of the very few popular hits in Telugu cinema. Nowadays, content is king and more than anything else, audiences want a good plot and Prema Katha Chitram promised just that. The film has not only won hearts for its directorial excellence, but it was also a huge commercial success.Maruthi took up the challenge with the help of R Sudharshan Reddy of RPA Creations who agreed to produce the film.
Today, on June 7, 2019, Prema Katha Chitram clocks six years and it can safely be said that six years back, the director of the film, Maruthi, gave the industry one of the most successful horror comedy films. The 2013 film narrated the story of four friends who decide to commit suicide together in a farmhouse because of their failures are possessed by a lady soul. The catch in the film was that Maruthi cast Nanditha Raj as the leading lady and the twist worked well with the audience and the critics. The story was endearing, heart-warming and touching with its abundance of humour.
In the film, Maruthi succeeded in conjuring a creative synergy between technical expertise and creative excellence. Thus a host of artists like SB Uddhav as an editor, J Prabhakara Reddy as a cinematographer with JB (Jeevan Babu) as music director, joined hands to realise his dream project. All these were built on and around the narrative structure spun by resonant dialogues of Maruthi and evocative lyrics of Kasarla Shyam and Veturi Sundararama Murthy.
What also contributed to Prema Katha Chitram’s resounding success were the sterling performances by actors like Sudheer Babu, Nanditha Raj, Saptagiri, Praveen, Priya and so on. Sudheer Babu played the protagonist of the movie while Praveen essayed his best friend. Comedian Saptagiri was the talk of the town after playing yet another suicide aspirant who joins rest of them in the farmhouse. He won hearts with his superb hilarious performance.
Half a battle is won when the music of a film becomes chartbuster and such was the case with Prema Katha Chitram that prior to the film’s release; listeners were drooling over its songs. Be it I Just Love You Baby, Vennelaina Cheekataina, Prema Katha Chitramidi, Kothagunna Haaye and Oh My Love, the songs of the film were also loved by the audience. Maruthi’s freshness in terms of treatment also earned appreciation. The film had a sequel, Prema Katha Chitram 2, which was not lived up to the mark.
It can be truly said that Prema Katha Chitram is one of the most loved films of 2013, and till date, film buffs love to watch the film on television even today. From Sudheer Babu and Naditha Raj’s sizzling chemistry, Praveen and Saptagiri in supporting roles, to its blockbuster tracks, the film had everything; emotion, conflict, humour, soulful music and solution.
