Like each year, the selection procedure for India's official entry to the 2020
Academy Awards is reportedly underway and for the first time, the entire process is being held in Kolkata. The screening process which kicked-off on September 18 at a single-screen theatre is expected to continue till September 22. While the stalwart of Bengali cinema,
Aparna Sen is the chairperson of the committee, members of the jury include several technicians from different film industries.
According to sources, as many as 28 films are in contention to make it to the final cut and surprisingly, Telugu film Dear Comrade bagged a place in the Oscar entries list. Despite garnering favourable reviews from critics, the 2019 romantic-drama failed to impress the viewers’ owing to its slow narration and incoherent second half. However, the crackling chemistry between Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna has been appreciated by one & all.
Besides Dear Comrade, a slew of Tamil films like Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe, Vada Chennai and Oththa Seruppu Size 7 are also in contention for the honour. Here is a list of all the 28 films.
