Estraight Dil Se...’ goes the tagline of Hyderabad Nawabs 2. You need listen to RK explain the premise of the film to understand that this dakhni comedy is coming straight from the heart. “Dekho, ek kahawat hai ki jo bhi Hyderabad ka pani pia hai, woh Hyderabad ka nawab ho jata. Nawabipan yahan ke hawa pani mein hai,” says RK. You’ll need to be a Hyderabadi to get the drift.
For the benefit of the uninitiated here’s the elaboration: The ‘nawabipana’ is a colloquial epithet for the laid back ways of Hyderabad of yore; it is perhaps the last vestige of the Nizami era where life happened itmenan se. “The film tells the story of four such good-for-nothing but
bizzarely funny Hyderabadi nawabs,” says RK, smiling.
TV hottie, Ali Reza, is making his movie debut with the film headlined by an assembly line of Hyderabadi funny men — Aziz Naseer, Adnan
Sajid Khan, aka Gullu Dada and RK himself. And from the looks of the teaser, it seems like the film will not only dish out copious doses of unadulterated Hyderabadi gags that the franchise is famous for, but also hold a mirror to the ugly reality that hides behind the city’s real estate boom. Gullu Dada and Hussain Bakali play two small time builders who provide affordable housing that’s constructed in violation of the laws. The film revolves around one such five-storey apartment complex in Old City.
After all the flats are sold out, one fine day, the municipal authorities raze a part of the building including the staircase down because it is illegal. “How will the residents, who are stuck upstairs, come down? And how will the flat owners ensure that the builders pay for this fraud? This forms the crux of the story. It will leave the audience in splits,” says RK, who plays an Old City bhai who becomes a messiah for the beleaguered flat owners.
Ali Reza, who’s playing one of the leads, is quite excited to be part of the film. “I play Munna, a guy who wants to get married to a girl he likes, but his greedy
father-in-law is a problem. His only condition is that if I marry his daughter, he’ll come along with her and stay with us,” reveals Ali adding, “However, he doesn’t have a house where they all can stay so he does some jugad and buys a flat in the same building. But sadly, it gets bulldozed leaving his love story on the rocks,”
explains Ali.
