Jangpura Election Results 2025 highlights: BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah defeats Manish Sisodia by 675 votes

NEW DELHI: Reacting to the Delhi Election 2025 results, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and former chief minister Dr Raman Singh said the people have given a clear mandate to the BJP, placing their trust in PM Narendra Modi's guarantee.

"I thank all BJP workers for this historic victory. The people of Delhi have rejected the politics of lies and deceit," Singh said.

AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia conceded defeat in Jangpura on Saturday, expressing hope that the BJP would prioritise the welfare of the constituency. Speaking to reporters, he congratulated the winning candidate and urged them to focus on the area's development. After nine rounds of counting, Sisodia was trailing by 572 votes.

Speaking to the media, Sisodia acknowledged the efforts of his party workers and thanked supporters, despite losing by 600 votes. He expressed hope that the winning candidate would serve the constituency well.

"Party workers fought well; we all did hard work. People have supported us as well. But, I lost by 600 votes. I congratulate the candidate who won. I hope he will work for the constituency," he said.

Meanwhile, as per Election Commission trends, the BJP is set to form the government in Delhi after 27 years, leading in 48 seats, while AAP trails with 22. Congress has yet to secure a single seat. Several top AAP leaders, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, and leader Satyendra Jain, are all trailing in their respective constituencies.

"All of us party workers contested the Jangpura seat dedicatedly and the people here also gave us a lot of support but we fell short by just 600 votes. I congratulate the candidate (BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah) who won," he said.

On the eve of the declaration of Delhi Assembly election results, high political drama and posturing added to the suspense as both BJP and the AAP exuded confidence of forming the next government while the latter alleged attempts to poach its nominees.

Despite most exit polls giving a clear majority to the BJP in the 70-member Assembly, the AAP refused to believe the pollsters as its National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal cited alleged attempts to poach his party's candidates to claim that the bid showed that the BJP was likely to fall short of the majority mark of 36.

Political analysts are eagerly waiting for the results as these would reflect the vote-pulling charisma of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal.

A victory for the BJP would end the party’s 27-year exile from Delhi Darbar while a drubbing for the AAP may end its three-elections winning streak and precipitate a crisis of survival for the party which emerged from the anti-corruption campaign of Anna Hazare in 2011.

A three-tier security arrangement with 10,000 police personnel, including two paramilitary companies per centre, has been put in place for the 19 counting centres of the Delhi Assembly election results on Saturday, officials said. "We have made robust security arrangements (for counting day). Only authorised personnel will be allowed inside the counting centres, where the use of mobile phones will be strictly prohibited," said Special Commissioner of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava addressing a press conference on securing arrangements for the counting day.

He said that two companies of paramilitary forces would be deployed at each of the counting centre while the Delhi Police personnel will check security outside these centres.

"Two metal frame detectors, hand-held metal detectors and X-ray machines will ensure proper security of the counting centres. Delhi Police has already conducted anti-sabotage checks at all the counting centres," Srivastava said.

After trailing behind BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress's Farhad Suri, AAP leader Manish Sisodia took lead, as per early poll trends.

Farhad Suri stands as an INC candidate from JANGPURA for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. The polling is scheduled for February 5, 2025 in the Delhi constituency.

At 68 years of age, Suri holds a Graduate degree. His legal record shows five pending cases. His financial declaration indicates total assets valued at Rs 32.5Lac, comprising entirely of movable assets worth Rs 32.5Lac, with no immovable properties. He has declared zero liabilities.

By profession, Suri works as a Social Worker.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Jangpura Assembly constituency candidate Tarvinder Singh Marwah is a three-time MLA from Jangpura. Marwah was the Jangpura MLA from 1998 to 2013, representing Congress. In 2022, he switched to BJP. On Feb 5, he will be the BJP nominee fighting against AAP stalwart Manish Sisodia, his triangular rival being Farhad Suri of Congress.

He is 12th Pass in terms of his education record. Tarvinder Singh Marwah has (1) cases against him. Financially, Tarvinder Singh Marwah possesses total assets or net worth of Rs 49.7Crore with Rs 13Crore movable assets and Rs 36.7Crore immovable assets. He has Rs 13.7Crore in liabilities.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and ex-deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia stands as a key figure within the Aam Aadmi Party, contributing significantly as a member of the Political Affairs Committee.

Before he began his political journey, he carved his path as a journalist with Zee News and All India Radio. His active involvement in championing the Right to Information Act and foundational contributions to the Jan Lokpal Movement highlight his commitment to public welfare.

He has disclosed a combined family net worth of Rs 1.4 crore in his electoral affidavit. The declaration shows personal assets valued at Rs 57.43 lakh under his name, whilst his wife Seema Sisodia owns assets worth Rs 82.87 lakh.

The Election Commission of India began the counting of votes on 70 seats of New Delhi, including Jangpura, at 8am on Saturday.

The results for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections are set to be announced on Saturday, February 8, marking a pivotal moment in the Capital's political landscape. The election, held in a single phase on February 5, saw over 15 million eligible voters casting their ballots across 70 Assembly constituencies.

A total of 699 candidates, including 603 male and 96 female contenders, vied for the electorate's mandate.

The stakes are high as the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeks a fourth consecutive term, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to reclaim power after nearly 27 years. The Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi politics, is hoping to regain some lost ground.

Most exit polls predicted a comeback for BJP in Delhi after 27 years and a big setback for the ruling AAP.

Among the exit polls predicting a victory for the BJP, the People’s Pulse survey estimated that the NDA would secure between 51 and 60 seats, with the AAP obtaining 10-19 seats. It further claimed that the Congress would fail to secure any seats. The People’s Insight exit poll forecasted 40-44 seats for the NDA, 25-29 for the AAP, and 0-1 for Congress.

Meanwhile, the P-Marq poll suggested 39-49 seats for the BJP and allies, 21-31 for AAP, and 0-1 for Congress. According to the JVC poll, the NDA was expected to gain 39-45 seats, AAP 22-31, and Congress 0-2. Similarly, Poll Diary predicted 42-50 seats for the BJP-led alliance, 18-25 for the AAP, and 0-2 for Congress, while giving 0-1 seats to others. Chankya Strategies forecasted the NDA to secure 39-44 seats, AAP 25-28, and Congress 2-3 seats.

In contrast, two surveys projected an AAP victory. Wee Preside suggested 46-52 seats for the AAP, 18-23 for the BJP, and 0-1 for Congress. Mind Brink Media predicted 44-49 seats for AAP, 21-25 for the BJP, and 0-1 for Congress. The Matrize poll indicated a tight race, giving 35-40 seats to the BJP-led NDA and 32-37 to AAP, with Congress receiving 0-1 seats. The DV Research exit poll projected 36-44 seats for the BJP and allies, 26-34 for AAP, and 0 for Congress.

Sisodia said in a post on X, "Bowed my head at the feet of Kalka Mai for the happiness, peace and prosperity of Delhi.

The policies for people's rights brought light to every home, free electricity and water provided relief, better schools for children, better treatment for patients and the education revolution gave a new future to millions. This is the resolution of service, this is the religion of my politics. May Maa's blessings continue, this caravan of education revolution and public service should not stop!"

Delhi Police dismissed claims made by AAP nominee Manish Sisodia regarding alleged voter bribery by the BJP in the Jangpura constituency.

In an official statement, the Delhi Police stated, "The allegations of distribution of money could not be substantiated. The situation is under control and the confusion has been cleared."

The Aam Aadmi Party utilised its X platform account to claim that monetary distribution was occurring near the BJP booth in the Jangpura assembly area.

The party posted, "In Jangpura, BJP is openly taking voters to a building and distributing money. Money is being distributed to voters in the building adjacent to the BJP booth in Jangpura Assembly. All this is being done under the supervision of Delhi Police and Election Commission. If you have even a little self-respect left, then take action against these murderers of the Constitution."

Responding to the situation, AAP's Jangpura contestant Manish Sisodia remarked, "The BJP candidate was distributing money in this house. Why is the Election Commission not raiding this house?"

Following the electoral contest in Delhi, candidates engaged in diverse activities, dividing their time between official duties and personal pursuits. While some attended party meetings, others chose to unwind with family members or find solace in meditation, as they await the upcoming results. The voting process, which took place on Wednesday across 70 Assembly constituencies, involved 13,766 polling stations, with the final outcome set to be declared on February 8.

Representatives from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress participated in post-poll deliberations with their party workers, whilst also taking time to attend to personal matters.

The official vote counting process will take place on February 8, 2025, beginning at 8:00 AM. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has established a structured multi-stage counting process to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The first phase of counting will involve tallying the postal ballots, which include votes cast by government officials on election duty, service voters, and elderly or differently-abled voters who opted for the postal voting facility.

Once postal ballots have been processed, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be unlocked and counted in multiple rounds. This process is expected to continue throughout the day, with results from various constituencies becoming available at different intervals.

The Election Commission will release updated vote trends at regular intervals, providing a clearer picture of how each party is performing. By around 1:00 PM, major voting trends are expected to emerge, giving a preliminary indication of the likely winner.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Friday took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the party has "always believed in breaking other parties."

Singh further stated that the BJP had toppled governments in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

"BJP always believes in breaking other parties. BJP is the most corrupt party in the country... They have toppled governments in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh. Do we need a certificate from them that they are not dishonest..." Singh said while speaking to the media.

Additionally, Singh addressed the issue of the BJP allegedly attempting to poach 16 AAP MLAs to join the party. He stated that an inquiry had been demanded on the matter.

"We have complained about this and demanded an inquiry. After our allegations Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva created drama and wrote a letter to the ACB... I have come to lodge a complaint and I demand inquiry on it. I have also given the phone number from which AAP leader Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat was contacted..." he further stated.

The Aam Aadmi Party will win the Delhi elections with more than 50 seats, party leader Gopal Rai said on Friday, basing his estimate on a meeting in which the party's candidates presented their ground reports. In the meeting with all the candidates of the party ahead of counting day on Saturday, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal asserted that the party is set to form government in Delhi and alleged that the opposition is using the exit polls to create psychological pressure in an effort to execute Operation Lotus.

"Under Kejriwal's guidance, all candidates presented their ground reports, which indicated that AAP is set to win over 50 seats decisively with a close contest in seven-eight seats," Rai told reporters in a briefing after the meeting.

"Through exit polls, the opposition is attempting to spread the narrative that they are forming the government. However, this is only a reflection of their frustration over an imminent defeat," he said.

The party's candidate from Babarpur also alleged that AAP candidates have been receiving calls from opposition parties with offers of money and ministerial positions to switch sides.
