The book Law, Justice, Society: Selected Works of Upendra Baxi, was launched at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi recently. The book was released by Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B.V.Nagarathna, Supreme Court of India, at an exclusive event attended by key dignitaries from the Bar Council, Additional Solicitor Generals, judges, vice-chancellors, faculty members from leading law universities, and the students from the Indian Law Institute.
The event had the editors of book, Amita Dhanda, Professor Emerita, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad; Arun K. Thiruvengadam, Professor of Law at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru; and Kalpana Kannabiran, Distinguished Professor, Council for Social Development, New Delhi, in attendance.
Widely regarded as one of India’s most prominent legal scholars, Prof. Upendra Baxi is a leading voice and thought leader in human rights, constitutional law, and legal theory. The four-volume collection includes pioneering contributions across four decades, including a curated selection of essays and lectures that offer insights into diverse areas such as human rights, constitutionalism, law and society, and legal education. Each volume contextualizes Prof. Baxi’s work, providing an in-depth exploration of his research.
Expressing his gratitude Prof. Upendra Baxi said, “I deeply appreciate the immense dedication of the editors who have devoted nearly a generation to these four volumes.   • The third volume, edited by Kalpana Kannabiran, presents a selection of Upendra Baxi's work, illustrative of his intellectual engagements and writing over five decades, in the field of the sociology of Indian law.
  • The fourth volume, edited by Amita Dhanda, shows how Baxi's writings reflect his vision of studying law in context and training students as soldiers of constitutional justice.
