Soft muted lights throw a quiet, hushed glow around the room that has inviting floor cushions of all sizes sitting on pretty durries and chatai that are placed near the walls - sounds like the perfect idyllic place to laze around with a book, doesn't it? Well, that is just how welcoming and warm
Mukul Dev's study room is, and after that description we know why he calls it his favourite area at home.
"My favourite corner in my house is my study and meditation room. I store all my books here and read them while at leisure. I like to read all kinds of books ranging from spiritual, philosophical, to best-sellers and crime thrillers.
At the moment I'm reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan which I believe is a must-read. I like reading about the astronomical and celestial world a lot," says Mukul. The lighting used in the study room adds a lot to its meditative and serene feel. Mukul has candles in the room and uses them for mood-lighting. "The room is mostly lamp and candle-lit," he says. The actor has kept the sitting very simple - the different kinds of chatai and rugs are inviting.
Cushions are neatly placed along the walls yet it does not look austere at all - the open warmth to it is difficult to miss. When you use linen, soft cotton, bamboo, cane, candles and lanterns, you know that the feel of the place will essentially be earthy, practical yet have the dreamy tone to it. The room has one large window that is covered with a bamboo curtain and the romantic in Mukul gushes, "When it rains, the bamboo emits a lovely fragrance like the one you get in a garden." The peaceful and positive vibe of the room is unmistakable. Mukul signs off, "And it is like that despite any kind of vastu."
