NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans secured their first win of the season by defeating
Mumbai Indians by 36 runs, with fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna taking two wickets each.
Gujarat posted a challenging total of 196/8 after being asked to bat first at the massive stadium in Ahmedabad, thanks to a solid 63 off 41 balls by Sai Sudharsan.
In response, Mumbai could only manage 160/6, falling short in their chase. Siraj led the attack, removing both Mumbai openers early on, while Krishna's 2-18, which included a key wicket in the middle order, further crippled Mumbai's chase.
Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Mumbai's former captain
Rohit Sharma began aggressively with two boundaries but was bowled by Siraj for eight. Siraj then dismissed South African
Ryan Rickelton for six, clean bowling him. Despite a 62-run stand between Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, Krishna struck again to dismiss Varma for 39.
Suryakumar fought hard with 48 runs, including four sixes, but as the required run rate climbed, Krishna struck again, removing him.
Hardik Pandya, who scored just 11, was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, ending Mumbai's chances of a successful chase.
Earlier, Gujarat's openers Sudharsan and
Shubman Gill started cautiously before breaking free with 35 runs between overs five and six. Pandya, returning from suspension, took the key wicket of Gill, who was caught for 38, ending a 78-run opening partnership. Pandya contributed with the ball, taking 2-29.
Sudharsan continued to anchor the innings, sharing partnerships with
Jos Buttler, who hit 39 off 24 balls before being dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Pandya then dismissed Shahrukh Khan (9), while Deepak Chahar sent Sherfane Rutherford (18) back to the pavilion.
Sudharsan reached his half-century but fell to Trent Boult for 50. Despite Gujarat's late stutter, their total of 196 was enough to seal their first victory in two matches.
