American rapper will.i.am is more than just a multi-platinum artist—he’s a die-hard Formula 1 fan. Best known for supporting Lewis Hamilton, the Grammy-winning musician has expressed his love for the sport, even releasing an F1-inspired track Let’s Go in October 2023. But long before that, he had a hilarious moment with Sebastian Vettel that left fans laughing. Seeing a young Vettel, will.i.am jokingly doubted if he even had a driver’s license. The crowd erupted in laughter, but the rapper followed up with praise for the young talent.

From jokes to praise: will.i.am recognizes Sebastian Vettel’s F1 talent

As an F1 enthusiast, will.i.am has met several drivers. One of those moments involved Sebastian Vettel, who, at the time, looked so young that the rapper couldn’t resist making a joke about it. Addressing a massive crowd, will.i.am humorously cast doubt on Vettel’s ability to drive.
“He ain’t a driver,” the now 49-year-old said, drawing laughter. “I don’t even think this dude got a license cause he look so young and sh*t.”
Despite the jab, will.i.am wasn’t dismissing Vettel’s talent. After the joke, he made sure to acknowledge Vettel’s skills, recognizing him as an outstanding driver. It was all in good fun, and Vettel himself likely took it well.

will.i.am’s love for F1 runs deep, especially for Hamilton. Earlier this year, he creatively crafted an acrostic poem with 22 adjectives, which spelled “Lewis Hamilton Forty Four.” This unique tribute highlighted his admiration for the Mercedes star.
Interestingly, Lewis Hamilton shares a passion for music like will.i.am’s enthusiasm for F1. Though he hasn’t publicly released music, he has recorded tracks privately. The Brit even featured on Christina Aguilera’s song Pipe under the pseudonym XNDA. According to will.i.am, Hamilton’s perfectionist nature means he won’t release music unless it meets his high standards.
