Max Verstappen is gearing up for what could be the most fiercely contested championship of his career as the Formula One season kicks off in Melbourne this weekend. The defending world champion, known for his fearless driving and straightforward attitude, is ready to face the challenge head-on. Verstappen’s competitive spirit and unyielding confidence have defined his success on the track, making him one of the most captivating figures in the sport today.

Max Verstappen says those who can’t appreciate his F1 success are driven by jealousy

At 27, Verstappen already boasts four consecutive F1 titles, with the latest being the hardest-fought since his controversial 2021 battle with Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi. That season tested Verstappen’s resilience and fighting spirit, proving that when pushed to the edge, he thrives under pressure. His aggressive yet calculated approach on the track often sparks debate, but Verstappen remains unapologetic about his style. “I do whatever is needed,” he stated with conviction. “I try to always go for it when I think it’s right to do so. It’s just how I am. I will always go for it when I think it’s possible, whatever other people call it.”

Verstappen’s fierce determination is matched by his honesty off the track. Despite his easy-going demeanor away from racing, his competitive edge remains undeniable. His clashes with Hamilton at Monza in 2021 and the aggressive moves against Lando Norris in Mexico last season have fueled criticism, with some labeling him as reckless. However, Verstappen remains unbothered by the negative opinions. “They’re just jealous. Jealous of success,” he told The Guardian. “My dream was to get to F1 and be successful. I’ve achieved that and people that can’t appreciate that, they’re jealous. So that’s fine for them. But it’s not correct, because jealousy doesn’t bring you anywhere in life.”
The Dutchman’s self-belief and confidence in his approach are unwavering. He makes it clear that he races on his terms and isn’t seeking validation from critics. “I don’t tell you or someone else how they should live their lives or what they should do in life. Everyone should just focus on themselves,” Verstappen remarked. “I think my behaviour is good. If someone else disagrees, that’s their problem. It’s not my problem, is it?”
Verstappen attributes his success to the team around him and his own determination. “You create your own success,” he stated. “And I’ve created my own success with very important people around me. Of course, part of that success is with the team. All these people that I’m working with and that are close to me, they value that success. That’s what it’s about. And I am very happy with what I have achieved in this sport. That is the most important thing.”
