MUNGER: Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh succumbed to injuries at Patna hospital on Friday while receiving treatment, following a purported assault by a family residing in Nandalpur village, situated in Bihar's Munger district.
According to SDPO Abhishek Anand, "ASI Santosh Kumar Singh lost his life after being attacked by individuals in Munger. He was responding to a ruckus created by the family of a man identified as Ranveer Kumar in Nandalpur village under Mufassil police station limits."
Police officials reported that the suspects, who were purportedly under the influence of alcohol, have fled the scene. Multiple police teams have been deployed to locate and arrest the accused individuals.

Sharing details of the incident, SP Masood said, "The incident unfolded after the Munger police received information late in the evening about a family creating a ruckus in Nandalpur village under the influence of alcohol. Upon reaching the spot with his team, ASI Singh was attacked by the family members, who struck him on the head, leaving him critically injured."
The injured officer was rushed to Sadar Hospital for immediate medical attention, following which he was transferred to a medical facility in Patna.
ASI Santosh Kumar Singh passed away at Paras Hospital in Patna at 10 pm on Friday, despite receiving medical treatment.
"The family responsible for the attack is currently absconding. We have formed teams to track them down, and arrests will be made soon," SP Masood said.
Police authorities have initiated a comprehensive search operation to apprehend the suspects whilst investigating the attack circumstances.

"We are extremely saddened by what happened in Munger. The police had gone there to resolve the dispute between two parties, but one of them attacked ASI Santosh Kumar Singh, injuring him. He was taken to Patna's Paras Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This is a concerning incident, especially because this has happened two days after what happened in Araria. So far, two people have been arrested and action should be taken against all those who are involved in the incident," said Bihar police association president Mrityunjay Singh.
Additional information regarding the incident is pending.
Previously, in a comparable event on March 13, ASI Rajiv Ranjan, stationed at Fulkaha police station in Araria, lost his life following a confrontation between police personnel and villagers during an attempted arrest at a wedding ceremony in Laxmipur village.
