Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. compares Shohei Ohtani with global sports icons Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods
During a recent interview in Tokyo, the former American League MVP Ken Griffey Jr. spoke about the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Hall of Famer even mentioned the Dodgers’ designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and his skyrocketing stardom. Griffey Jr. even compared the popularity of the Japanese baseball athlete with the global sports icons, including basketball legend Michael Jordan and golf star Tiger Woods. Ken Griffey Jr. said:
“There's only certain people I can compare him to: Michael and Tiger. Those would be the guys that could relate better than me because those guys can't go nowhere. I can still slide out into places.”He even spoke about Ohtani’s presence on the field, which is no less than a delight for the viewers. The former baseball star said,
“It's must see TV when we're watching. I mean, he's one of the guys that you stop doing everything you're doing just to see what he's going to do because it could be that quick. He's one of those guys that, you know, you've got to sit there and pay attention to.”While talking about Ohtani, Griffey Jr. further mentioned:
“The thing is, he works hard on and off the field. He keeps his body right, so you know, he could be the face for the next 10 years, or somebody could be like, ‘I want to be the face, and it changes. As long as you keep working and continuing to get better, you're going to be the face until somebody dethrones you.”All eyes are on Ohtani in Tokyo | Dodgers Debate
He even revealed:
“I didn't realise how big he was when I first saw him. And the other thing is, he's so particular and meticulous about certain things that he makes sure everything is right. It's pretty interesting.”Griffey Jr. even revealed that he hopes Shohei Ohtani recovers from his left shoulder injury. Reportedly, the 30-year-old Dodgers’ star hasn’t yet returned to the mound after his second surgery on the affected elbow.
