One of the viral moments of the 2024 season was when Juan Soto, who played for the New York Yankees that year, tapped his now-Mets teammate Francisco Alvarez's helmet. Even though it's been months since the viral moment, the Mets new hire recently revisited that memory and revealed the reason behind his friendly gesture.
Juan Soto revealed reason for tapping Francisco Alvarez's helmet
Juan Soto has been good friends with many top-league players, including the New York Mets star Francisco Alvarez. The two were spotted sharing a handful of friendly moments last season, especially the one when Soto tapped Alvarez's helmet during a Yankees vs Mets clash last season.
On Monday, Juan Soto made an appearance on the "Meet at the Apple" podcast to talk about his experience so far in the Spring Training and plans for the upcoming regular season. Apart from that, Soto also revisited the time when he tapped Francisco Alvarez's helmet last year. Talking about the reason why he did that, Soto said:
"We just go back and forth every time, you know, and it's just fun battles all of the time. We're just talking. He's barking and saying stuff. I think I checked swing on and he said I went. I was like 'no, no I didn't,' and he's just yelling at me and I'm like 'You, take it easy,' Soto said of the head tapping incident with Alvarez."Juan Soto's ex-teammate shared take on Yankees' departure
In the offseason, Juan Soto joined the New York Mets, leaving his former team New York Yankees. Last week, Soto's ex-teammate and Yankees captain
Aaron Judge shared his take on the left fielder's departure, during a media interaction.
"Excited for him and his new chapter with the Mets, but we added a lot of new pieces here... you can't replace a guy like Juan Soto but you bring in guys like this that are All Star, MVP caliber players," Judge said.
In fact, according to former Yankees head coach Sean Casey, Juan Soto's departure has resulted in a
"better line-up" for the team. Apart from Aaron Judge and Sean Casey, Carlos Mendoza recently shared his
"first conversation" with Soto, following his Mets' joining.
