Conor McGregor issues bold 3-word statement against attempts to block his candidacy for presidential run

Conor McGregor announced his intention to run for the President of Ireland. He faces opposition from some state citizens and senior ministers due to past allegations. Despite the pushback, McGregor remains positive and addresses issues like illegal immigration and infrastructure. His candidacy faces hurdles in getting nominated. The fighter issued a bold 3-word statement against these hurdles.

Over time, Conor McGregor has received support from well-known figures across world politics and international businesses, like US President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Andrew Tate. However, his announced bid for the presidential run was not much appreciated by the natives of Ireland themselves. This dissent stems from the previous allegations that were made against him, which even included a case of sexual assault. In a recent news piece published by The Irish Mail on March 23, 2025, the featured headline was “We will stop McGregor’s bid for Aras." The Notorious had a simple 3-word statement against the attempts to stop his candidacy: "No, you won't.”

Senior Ministers of Irish Government believe it would be difficult for Conor McGregor to nominate himself, states that the four councils won’t approve

Despite the role being a ceremonial one, Conor McGregor seems to be very optimistic about the work he will be doing once he becomes the head of state. The fighter mostly talks about the illegal immigration problems and lack of infrastructure related to health and education. In a recent tweet of his, McGregor has claimed to look into the EU immigration pact with more scrutiny and supervision that would involve the public as well.
“They will propose for me to sign off on Ireland's EU migration pact, which I will refuse, as President, without it being voted on by the people. IRELAND WE ARE A DEMOCRACY! THE PEOPLE WILL HAVE THE POWER! A Vote for McGregor is a vote for yourself!”

While the former lightweight champion is trying his best to legitimize his run for the presidential elections, there is a segment of citizens from the country who believe that the fighter has a very low chance of actually making it to office. His first hurdle would come in the guise of getting nominated for the run itself. A professor of political science at the Trinity College Dublin talks about the nomination of McGregor.
“There's two hurdles. First, you have to get nominated and then you have to win a majority of the vote. Both of those hurdles are almost insurmountable [for McGregor].... Conor McGregor is toxic in Ireland. I think it's almost inconceivable that four county councils would endorse him."
On the same lines, The Irish Mail, on March 23, issued a feature titled, “We will stop McGregor’s bid for Aras." The article talks about how a candidate willing to run for the presidential post must have the support of either 20 Oireachtas members or four local authorities. However, according to the senior minister’s statement, that does not seem to be achievable by the Irish fighter.
“I can assure you now, Conor McGregor will not be standing for the Presidency this year. We will stop it.”
McGregor chose not to stay silent and posted a picture of the frontpage of The Irish Mail on X, stating, “No you won’t”

The reaction to the post by the fans was a mixed one. While some believe that the government is right now scared, support for McGregor is also on the rise within the community. One of the noticeable reactions to the post was by the MMA reporter Nina-Marie Daniele.
“President McGregor”

Another user stated, “He will have to teach his supporters how to vote first.”

“They're scared. They know what's potentially coming.”

With the constant back-and-forth exchanges between McGregor and the Government of Ireland, the issue has garnered enough interest within world politics as well. While fans are still waiting for the fighter to announce his next bout, the political ventures of the Notorious might not let him enter the Octagon anytime soon.
