Kamaru Usman saw an end to his iconic title reign at UFC 278 against Leon Edwards. His consecutive losses in a rematch with Edwards at UFC 286 and to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 have started to rank him down in the debate of the welterweight championship belt. The Nigerian fighter is in urgent need of a comeback win to maintain his position for the title run. Under these circumstances, the former welterweight champion, in a recent podcast of Pound 4 Pound, revealed that the next fighter on his list is Sean Brady, who recently wonUFC Fight Night 255. Brady defeated Edwards at the main event via submission.

Kamaru Usman talks about how a match against Sean Brady would be ideal for the Nigerian fighter

Sean Brady solidified his position as one of the top welterweight contenders after defeating Edwards and immediately called out the top rankers of the division, like Kamaru Usman and other fighters for his next possible bout. Even though lately Usman turned down fight invites from fighters like Ian Machado Garry, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Joaquin Buckley, however, this particular callout was interesting for Usman.

In a recent episode of the podcast Pound 4 Pound with Henry Cejudo, Usman replied enthusiastically when he was asked about a potential fixture with Sean Brady.
“That’s a good point, Henry, because when you look at styles and the way that fights work, myself and Colby Covington, what did everyone say? ‘Oh, they’re both wrestlers. They’re both economical fighters.’ And you saw what that turned out to be. All right, we cancel each other out, we ain’t even going to try to grapple, let’s bang it out.” Usman stated.
“This has the potential to be one of those fights. I like Sean Brady. I like the way he approaches the game, and of course he’s training with Din Thomas now, so that adds an extra element to the game. I like both, but I want to keep that streak of beating all of Din Thomas’ guys. I whooped at least three of his guys, so I want to keep that streak going, but I like that matchup.”

Usman is gearing up to bounce back from his three-fight losing streak. While Brady stays on the top of that list, the other fighters are Shavkat Rakhmonov and Joaquin Buckley. The fighter needs to put his best out there in order to secure another title run, while his proposed opponents need to maintain their position as the title contenders.
