Aaron Rodgers to Pittsburgh gaining steam as Steelers reportedly feel assured about possible deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are keen on signing Aaron Rodgers, offering him a one-year, $30 million deal amidst a quarterback crisis. Despite optimism within the organization, Rodgers' delay in signing has sparked speculation. The urgency stems from Rodgers' potential to significantly bolster the team's chances in the upcoming season, given their current lack of proven quarterbacks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are navigating a crucial offseason crossroads as their quarterback room faces a major talent gap amid Aaron Rodgers waiting game.. With both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields departing in free agency, the team is aggressively seeking a proven leader under center. All eyes are now on four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who has emerged as the franchise's top target to fill the void.

According to multiple reports, the Steelers have offered Aaron Rodgers a one-year deal worth $30 million, with $10.5 million of that guaranteed. While it’s a hefty offer on paper, the veteran quarterback has shown little urgency to sign, prompting speculation about whether the offer truly meets his expectations.
Colin Cowherd & Dianna Russini on why NFL will BAN Eagles' TUSH PUSH | THE HERD

“Financials are always part of it,” noted Dianna Russini of The Athletic. “He does not need to sign and take some cheap deal. He knows the Steelers need him... There’s gonna be a number here that’s gonna make Aaron happy. And I just don’t know if Pittsburgh is there yet.” This sentiment suggests the negotiation hinges less on urgency and more on the perceived value both sides are attaching to this pivotal moment in their respective futures.
Despite the standstill, there’s a clear sense of optimism inside the Steelers organization. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently revealed on SportsCenter, “I'm told from the Steelers they do remain optimistic... they feel good about this shaking out that Rodgers will be a Pittsburgh Steeler.” Fowler also added that Pittsburgh seems to be operating under the belief that Rodgers has, at some point, given informal assurance about his intent to sign—though no definitive word has been received yet.
The Steelers are playing a delicate game of patience, aware that Rodgers could be mulling retirement or exploring other franchises like the Minnesota Vikings. However, according to Fowler, “This is all but dead for them essentially,” ruling out Minnesota as a serious contender and reinforcing the narrative that it’s “Steelers, retirement or bust.”
Pittsburgh’s urgency isn’t without reason. Currently, the only quarterbacks on the roster are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson—neither considered long-term starters. Entering a brutal AFC North featuring Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson with such unproven arms would spell disaster for a team hoping to contend.
Adding to the intrigue, Rodgers was recently seen working out with DK Metcalf, whom the Steelers just acquired. The potential of throwing to both Metcalf and George Pickens makes Pittsburgh an attractive destination. Defenses would be hard-pressed to shut down both receivers while also respecting the Steelers’ run game—giving Rodgers a chance to thrive if he joins.

Furthermore, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers spent roughly six hours at the Steelers' facility, calling it “a positive visit.” The extended time with coaches and staff hints that both sides are seriously invested, even if paperwork hasn’t been signed yet.
With the NFL Draft approaching fast, Pittsburgh would ideally like a resolution soon to adjust its draft strategy. For now, though, all they can do is wait—and hope Rodgers eventually makes the move that could redefine their 2025 season.
