Davante Adams touted as a ‘big addition’ by Matthew Stafford after Rams' two-year deal

Davante Adams is now a Los Angeles Ram after previously playing for the Jets and Raiders. Rams cut Cooper Kupp after injury issues. Adams joined with high hopes despite not having his best year recently. Rams coach Sean McVay aggressively pursued Adams, seeing him as a key addition to their team for a potential deep playoff run.

Davante Adams is now a Los Angeles Ram. A month ago, he was with the New York Jets. Before that, the Las Vegas Raiders. Before that, the Green Bay Packers. And through it all, Matthew Stafford watched from the other side of the field. Now, the two are teammates, and Stafford has made it clear—Adams changes things for the Rams.
“I have a ton of respect for him, the way he goes about his business and the way he plays the game,” Stafford told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. “He’s been a big-time in this league for a long time, so happy to have him. I know he’s going to be a big addition to our team.”

Davante Adams replacing Cooper Kupp in the Los Angeles Rams offense is a gamble, but one the team had to take

The Los Angeles Rams cut Cooper Kupp after three straight injury-plagued seasons. He went from being an NFL triple crown winner to struggling to stay on the field. The Rams had to move on. The risk? Adams is 32. And while he has stayed relatively healthy, he’s not coming off his best year.
In 2024, Adams played 14 games between the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets, catching 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. He still cleared 1,000 yards, extending his streak to five straight seasons, but this wasn’t peak Adams. He also dealt with drop issues and ranked 15th in ESPN’s open score, proving he can still get separation but maybe not at the same level as before.
For Stafford, that’s still more than enough. Adams has spent years proving he doesn’t need elite speed to dominate. His footwork, route-running, and release off the line are elite. The Los Angeles Rams need a reliable WR1, and Stafford needs a target he can trust. Adams fits that mold, even if he's not 2020 Davante Adams anymore.

Sean McVay went all-in on bringing Davante Adams to the Los Angeles Rams, and now it’s time to see if it pays off

Adams didn't just stumble into this deal. Sean McVay went after him. Aggressively. The Los Angeles Rams head coach admitted he was relentless in recruiting the wide receiver. “I was talking to him more than I was talking to my wife,” McVay said.
It’s not hard to see why. The Los Angeles Rams aren’t rebuilding. They still have Matthew Stafford. Aaron Donald. A core that, if healthy, can make a deep playoff run. But they needed weapons. McVay saw Adams as that piece.
Now, it’s time to see if it works. Adams is stepping into a new system, on a team with Super Bowl ambitions, catching passes from a quarterback who’s won it all before. If he delivers, this could be one of the best moves of the offseason. If he doesn’t, it’ll be another reminder of how fast things change in the NFL.
