The Eagles have extended Barkley’s contract as a big reward for the last month's victory. This makes Barkley the highest paid running back in the NFL history. This is his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Saquon Barkley will sign a two-year contract worth $41.2 million, making him the highest paid player in the entire NFL history.

With a historic season comes a historic pay, Saquon Barkley scripts historic moment forever


Looking back into the past, while starting his career, Barkley lost as he accepted that the New York Giants did not want him. When he signed the deal with the Eagles, many claimed that the contract was not worth to battle for.
He holds a record-breaking season with a career-high of 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns. Barkley’s rushing record made a historic franchise record. In the regular season he broke the record of Terrell Davis.
Terrell Davis’s NFL record for rushing yards in a single season with 2,504 rushing yards. Barkley is not only the league’s highest-paid running back but also the first NFL running back to make $20 million per year.
For the season of 2024-2025, he broke the single season rushing record. His win was an embarrassing moment for those who devalued his credentials as a player.
ESPN Senior NFL Insider tweeted, “Eagles are rewarding Saquon Barkley with a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, per sources. Barkley also has the ability to earn an additional $15 million in incentives and escalators. The deal includes $36 million, which is fully guaranteed at signing.”
Earlier, the Eagles have signed Barkley to a three-year contract worth $37.75 million in the year 2024. Also, while signing the recent deal, the Philadelphia Eagles show off strength in their ongoing business.
Reacting to all the above, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, who reposted the Barkley deal news. Taking it to the twitter, he said “Good business”.

While Barkley will earn more than $20 million, news have been predicted for the next highest paid is Christian McCaffrey at $19 million.
