"I know what I went through," Charlie McAvoy avoids questions about his injury and is just happy to be back on ice

Charlie McAvoy was back on the ice at the Honda Center in Anaheim wearing a no-contact jersey after suffering a shoulder injury in February 2025. Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco mentioned that McAvoy's presence boosts team morale and that he's progressing well, though there's still no timeline for his return.

Charlie McAvoy practiced at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Tuesday. McAvoy was wearing a no-contact jersey because of the injury he suffered during the 4 Nations Face-off in February 2025. The shoulder injury which Charlie McAvoy suffered from, had become infected and McAvoy had to be shifted to the Massachusetts General Hospital for better treatment (irrigation and debridement) on Febraruy 18, 2025.

On February 20, 2025, Sportsnet shared on their X platform:
"The Bruins were extremely unhappy with the way this was handled and they felt McAvoy didn't get the proper care."

Charlie McAvoy suffered from increasing pain upon returning to Boston from the 4 Nations Face-off



On February 19, 2025, the Boston Bruins shared on its X platform,
"Statement from Boston Bruins Head Team Physician Dr. Peter Asnis:
Charlie McAvoy sustained an injury to his right shoulder acromioclavicular joint in Team USA's 4 Nations Face-Off game against Finland on February 13. He underwent treatment, which was administered by Team USA's medical staff. Upon returning to Boston, he developed increasing pain, for which he was evaluated by the Boston Bruins' medical staff.
After undergoing x-rays, MRIs, and bloodwork, he was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder, as well as a significant injury to his AC joint. He underwent an irrigation and debridement procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital on February 18. He remains in the hospital, where he is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition is improving."

A reporter asked Charlie McAvoy after practice in the locker room in Anaheim, "When you were hurt, the GS released that initial tweet about your diagnosis. There were reports out of Canada. They were unhappy with your initial treatment. Do you have any reaction to those reports?"
Charlie McAvoy asked, "Um, reports out of Canada?"
The reporter replied, "Yeah, Canadian media that were that the Bruins were upset with how you were treated after your…"
Charlie McAvoy shared, "Oh, I think you'd have to just talk to them about that. I know what I went through, and I know how I feel about it. But I'm not really sure how other people felt. To be honest, didn't really give it much thought when I was the one going through it all, what other people had to say about it. So, I'll just leave that there. It's been a lot. It's been tough. Whatever, we are out the other side now, and like I said, I'm just happy to be here."
Charlie McAvoy talked about being back on the ice, "I'm glad to just be out here with the guys and just to get back into the swing of things."


Joe Sacco, interim head coach for the Boston Bruins, said, "It's good for the morale of the team to have him(Charlie McAvoy) around,"



At Tuesday's practice, the media asked Boston Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco how he felt about having ice hockey defenseman Charlie McAvoy back on the ice. Joe Sacco said, "It's good for the morale of the team to have him (Charlie McAvoy) around. He's progressing the way he should be right now. He's not pushing himself any more than he has to. When he's available, he'll be in the lineup when he's ready. There's still no timeline on his return."
