Late NHL legend Johnny Gaudreau's widow, Meredith Gaudreau, has posted the happy news of giving birth to her third child, a baby boy, just a few months after the untimely death of her husband. The news was posted on social media on April 7, where she announced the name of her newborn, Carter Michael Gaudreau. Johnny Gaudreau's sister also showed her love and support while congratulating the new mother with heartfelt Instagram stories.

Meredith Gaudreau names newborn son after late husband Johnny Gaudreau

Born on April 1, 2025, Carter Michael Gaudreau has more than a name in common with his father. Meredith Gaudreau announced in an emotional Instagram post that the baby weighed precisely 8lb 3oz and was 20.5 inches long, just like his deceased dad, Johnny Gaudreau. She also posted that baby Carter looks ‘exactly like his daddy’.

The heartfelt dedication to Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically died in a devastating accident a mere seven months ago, has touched hearts as much as those of his loved ones, with the Gaudreau family consistently demonstrating strength as they continue to support each other through this moving chapter.
“I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.” she captioned her post, which featured a carousel of 14 photos capturing Carter's initial moments, his siblings meeting him, and sweet shots from the delivery room.

A family of strength: Katie and Madeline Gaudreau celebrate the newest addition

Johnny Gaudreau's late brother Matthew Gaudreau's widow, Meredith's sister-in-law Madeline Gaudreau, demonstrated her affection and solidarity by reposting the news and labeling the new baby “Tripp's best friend”—a touching reference to her own December 2024-born son Tripp Matthew, who shares his name with Madeline's late husband.
Katie shared stories of her sister-in-law and the kids, writing, “John’s perfect family,” a sweet tribute to her late brother. Katie also referred to Meredith and Johnny's children as ‘John and Mers’ perfect babies,’ loving and admiring her sister-in-law and the expanding Gaudreau family.
This display of unity has moved many, as the family still holds Johnny’s memory close to their hearts and looks forward to new beginnings.
