“He(Connor McDavid)’s progressing. The progress is good, but the (Edmonton)Oilers are also being sensitive to their timeline and also very cautious in terms of making sure that he is healthy for the playoffs. As Kris Knoblauch, the head coach for the Oilers, has acknowledged, they do believe that Connor McDavid will be available before the start of the postseason. I think he’s at least another week away, so the expectation is that he should be able to come into the fray in the final week of the NHL regular season.” informed TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger on April 1, 2025 on Insider Trading.
Everyone is counting on the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid. The last four games missed by Connor McDavid were two-two-zero, meaning 2 won, 2 lost, and 0 overtime losses. Even a glimpse of Connor McDavid would do wonders for the Edmonton Oilers. And so Connor McDavid returned to the ice after staying apart for two long weeks due to his injury. Connor McDavid was seen skating with his Edmonton Oilers teammates wearing a grey no-contact jersey on Tuesday’s morning practice.

Connor McDavid was caught practicing on ice - when is he returning to play?

Kris Knoblauch shared with NHL.com on March 31, 2025, “He(Connor McDavid) might join us later on the trip, but not now. We know a ballpark point where it’s going to be, and it’s not going to be the next game or two. We feel it should be before the regular season ends, so we are looking at one, two, at the most three (weeks) because that’s what we have left in our (regular)season, but he’ll be (back) before the regular season is over.“
Kris Knoblauch also shared with NHL.com on March 31, 2025, “To say the regular season is not that important, and we are not playing for anything, and putting in time is a little far-fetched. We are not in that position. When he is healthy, we want him joining and want him playing, but we are not going to push something that might get worse.”

Kris Knoblauch addressed the media before meeting with the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday, that is, April 1, 2025,
“It’s encouraging seeing a lot of new guys other there. (Evander)Kane has been on the ice for a few skates now with us, but he’s joining us. (Trent)Frederic, (had) his first skate today. And Connor(McDavid) also. It’s exciting times for us and hopefully we can have those guys within the near future, whether that’s for all three of them for the first game of playoffs, I’m not sure, but they are trending in the right direction.”
Edmonton Oilers will next face the San Jose Sharks on April 4, 2025, the Los Angeles Kings on April 6, 2025, and the Anaheim Ducks on April 8, 2025. Connor McDavid will miss the first two games - against the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings as informed by the head coach Kris Knoblauch.
