15 American companies that face 'China ban' after addition to the country's 'Export-Control' list

China's Ministry of Commerce has added 15 American companies to its export-control list, restricting the export of dual-use items to them. Additionally, 10 American firms have been placed on the “unreliable entity�?list, barring them from trading or investing in China. These measures target companies in defense technology and AI.

Earlier this week, China's Ministry of Commerce announced that it has added 15 American companies to an 'Export-control list' and expanded the number of American companies on its “unreliable entity�?list. The 'Export-control list' means that Chinese companies cannot export of dual-use items (goods with both civilian and military applications) to the companies on this list. Dual-use items, as referred to in the new regulations announced by China in November 2024, are goods, technologies, and services that have both civilian and military applications or contribute to enhancing military capabilities. Specifically, they can be used for the design, development, production, or use of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, including related technical data and documentation.
The list includes several American defense-technology companies that have been put on the export-control list, the Chinese ministry said in a statement. They names comprise two drone technology companies: Drone maker Skydio and Andreessen Horowitz-backed artificial-intelligence startup Shield AI, which makes AI-powered systems for drones. The Commerce Ministry also added 10 American companies to China’s “unreliable entity�?list. The companies on this list are prohibited from exporting or importing in China or from making new investments in the country, the ministry said.
