A recent exchange between Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has garnered attention, with reports indicating Zuckerberg was unable to answer a question he posed to Nadella. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently revealed that about 20 to 30% of the company’s code is written by software. Nadella made the revelation during a chat session with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Meta’s LlamaCon Conference held on April 29. “I’d say maybe 20%, 30% of the code that is inside of our repos today and some of our projects are probably all written by software,” Nadella said during a conversation with Zuckerberg.

The question Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg failed to answer

As mentioned above, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg asked Satya Nadella about the percentage of Microsoft code written by AI. Replying to the question Nadella answered that about 30% of Microsoft's code is now AI-generated. However, when Satya Nadella asked the same question to Zuckerberg, he hesitated and admitted he didn’t have the exact figures. Zuckerberg also added that Meta is creating an AI model which can build the future versions of the company’s Llama family of AI models.
“Our prediction is that within the next year, perhaps half of the development will be handled by AI instead of humans, and this share is likely to grow progressively," Zuckerberg stated.
Recently, during the earnings call, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai also revealed that more than 25% of the new code is now written by AI. On the other hand, the Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn also announced that gradually the company will turn to AI rather than depending on human contractors.
