WhatsApp has announced that it has started to roll out a feature that will allow users to add music to status updates. WhatsApp says that the Status remains end-to-end encrypted, meaning the platform cannot see what you share or which songs you choose.
“WhatsApp Status has always been a way to share life’s moments with friends and family—but what’s a moment without the perfect soundtrack? Now, you can do exactly that by adding music to your Status updates,” the company said.
How to share music on WhatsApp status
Sharing music on WhatsApp status is a pretty simple step. When creating a Status, users will notice a music note icon at the top of their screens.
Tapping it will open a vast library of songs, giving users the freedom to choose from today's top hits, new releases, or even that catchy tune in their minds.
“Our library has millions of songs to choose from,” WhatsApp said.
Users can then select the exact part of the song that best fits their moment—up to 15 seconds for a photo Status and up to 60 seconds for a video Status.
This update aligns with features already available on WhatsApp’s sister company, Instagram, which allows users to integrate music into various parts of their Stories, Reels and profiles as well as share music in notes. The addition of music to WhatsApp Status essentially bridges the gap between the two platforms.
The feature is rolling out globally and will continue expanding in the coming weeks, the Meta-owned company said.
