The Chess World Cup is a series of three different events over the years. Since 2000, it has been a major chess event that is organized by FIDE (World Chess Federation). Post 2005, it has been a 128-player single-elimination chess tournament, forming part of the qualification for World Chess Championship.

In 2017, this championship will be held from 2 to 27 September 2017 in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The top two finishers in this tournament will qualify for the Candidates tournament for the World Chess Championship 2018.
Sergey Karjakin was the champion of the previous World Cup, but lost in the second round to Daniil Dubov.
