Farmers in Mandsaur started a protest on June 1, 2017, demanding that their loans be written off and their produce be bought by the government at a fair price. For the next four days, farmers stopped vehicles carrying milk and vegetables. The protest turned violent on June 6, when security forces fired at protesting farmers killing up to eight of them and sparking tensions across the state. The farmers retaliated by torching more than 30 vehicles. On June 7, after funeral processions of the deceased farmers, thousands of farmers torched warehouse, shops and vehicles in Pipliamandi area of Mandsaur in which more than a dozen policemen were injured. A 5km stretch of Mandsaur bypass road was completely blocked by the farmers, who indulged in arson and violence, while robbing long distance truckers. The protest also spread to other regions of the state. A curfew was imposed in the whole area. Later, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh met families of farmers killed during protests and made a fresh attempt to reach out to the agitating farmers, saying the state government was open for a dialogue to iron out the differences and once again appealed them to maintain peace.

Thousands of primary school teachers in the city of Bhubaneswar walked the streets on Tuesday to demand their eight-point charter of demands, including the cancellation of their deputation and abolition of the excadre provision, from March 1 of this year.
