mukul sangma

Mukul M Sangma is an Indian politician representing the Congress party. He swore in as the 11th Chief Minister of Meghalaya on April 21, 2010. Prior to taking up as the CM, Sangma has headed Home & Education, Taxation, and Fisheries Ministries.

Before venturing into politics, Sangma was a practicing as a physician and was the medical officer at the Zikzak Public Health Centre. Additionally, he was also served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya and the Chairman of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation.

Sangma started gaining limelight at a very early age as he held several positions in the Students Council at RIMS. He contested from Ampatigiri during the Meghalaya legislative assembly elections in 1993 and also won the candidature.

He has also served as the Parliamentary Secretary between 1996 and 1998. He got re-elected to the same constituency in 1998, 2003 and 2008 as a Congress candidate.
