Director Deb Kumar Bose, aged 91, passed away due to age-related ailments. Son of legendary filmmaker Debaki Kumar Bose, he made significant contributions to Bengali television with 'Bibaho Obhijan' and to Manipuri cinema, earning a National Film Award for 'Matmagi Manipur'. He is survived by his son, Debashish Bose.
Veteran director Deb Kumar Bose passes away at 91

Director Deb Kumar Bose, son of late famous director Debaki Kumar Bose, passed away on Friday. The veteran director breathed his last due to old age and age-related ailments. He was 91. Confirming the news of his death, director Premendu Bikas Chaki said that the director had been suffering from various problems related to old age for a long time. He was admitted to a private hospital for treatment but did not sail through. His body was laid to rest at Mudiali's residence at noon today.
Deb Kumar Bose was the son of legendary filmmaker Debaki Kumar Bose. The man behind films like ‘Chandidas’, ‘Seeta’, ‘Sagar Sangamey’, was often called a ‘cholochitrer sanyasi’ or ‘industry ascetic’ by his colleagues. To avoid comparison with his father, Deb Kumar Bose chose not to indulge much in Bengali cinema. However, he gifted Bangla Television with 'Bibaho Obhijan', which is considered a groundbreaking series of Bengali television. Shankar Chakraborty, Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, Joy Badlani became popular through this series.
Deb Kumar Bose shaped the Manipur film world with his valuable contribution. The journey of Manipuri films started with his hands. Deb Kumar Bose won the National Film Award for making 'Matmagi Manipur' (1972). Bose is called the father of Manipuri film.
Deb Kumar Bose is survived by his son, Debashish Bose. Debashish hasn’t followed in the footsteps of his father or grandfather and stayed away from the entertainment industry. Debashish’ livelihood is earned through his business. The late director's last rites are to be completed on Friday.
