Saturday Night Live has a particular place in Bill Murray's heart.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM's Sway in the Morning, the 74-year-old comic opened up about attending SNL50: The Anniversary Special on February 16. Murray, a five-time host and former cast member, said the three-hour-long event, which he had previously starred in, brought back many memories.
"It was surprisingly emotional," he added. "I wept three times during the show. "It really got to me."
Radner died of ovarian cancer at the age of 42 in 1989, and SNL aired the segment on the same show that Martin hosted.
"There's the film that Tom Schiller made with Belushi visiting the Saturday Night Live graveyard and seeing all his compatriots dead," Murray remarked, emphasising the skit's unnerving irony. Meanwhile, John was the first to leave. So to see it, and to watch him — see, I could go [tear] now, just thinking about that — to see that sort of foreshadowing that Schiller intuited to create that, and to miss him."
Murray went on to praise his late friend's influence on the entertainment industry.
"John was a guy who really made a lot of careers possible," he told me. "He hauled us all out of Chicago. John Belushi did it. He was the first to come out, and he was a daring individual. He moved to New York and created an off-Broadway production called Lemmings.
Murray went on: "He was the funniest, scariest guy in New York, and he said, 'All these New York actors can't get it done. I've got some people. And he brought out Joe Flaherty, Harold Ramis, Gilda, and me. Many individuals slept on John Belushi's couch till they got their feet.

"He was the best stage actor I ever saw," he stated. "He was exceptional on stage, TV, and film..." You couldn't take your eyes off him."
