doweshowbellyad=0; Ila Arun. (TOI Photo)Ila Arun is no stranger to reality shows. After all, she had been a part of Fame Gurukul for a long time. And once again, the singer is going to be part of a music talent show, this time with a difference. Ila will be a mentor on NDTV Imagines Junoon, which will not see a battle between singers but a battle between music genres Sufi, folk and filmi.
And but naturally, Ila will be the mentor for the folk team Maati ke Laal.
I always like to do things emotionally close to my heart and personality. Ive always been associated closely with folk and whatever I am today is because of folk music. I love the simplicity, rawness and rhythm of folk music, says Ila, as an answer to her being the mentor for the genre. Shes happy that shes getting the chance to interact with different singers from the genre. Also, I found this show interesting as it will familiarise audience with three genres, unlike other shows that are just Bollywood based, she adds.Ila is not apprehensive about being seen in a music talent show once more. Even I like to move ahead and not repeat things but if theres something new to do, then theres no harm. In Fame Gurukul, my role was a totally different. All the time I was there, I did not even sing one song in the show. My duty was to protect the contestants from the judges, she explains. She goes on to say that the audience had really liked the way she used to interact with the contestants in that show and and she had given the show her all. I refused a number of shows that I was offered as they were similar to Fame... she adds. But what does Ila think about the entire concept of reality shows? Does she believe that they actually deliver good singers or its all a TRP game? Thats a debatable issue but its both ways. Reality shows have introduced a lot of talented singers who nobody would have known otherwise. Magar kuch paane ke liye kuch khona padta hai. Things like audience voting may be good for business for the channels but ultimately, it is good for the growth for the singers too if the audience is involved, she reasons.
