Arshad Khan, a former street tea vendor from Pakistan whose photo went viral in 2016, just received a huge Rs 1 crore investment from Shark Tank Pakistan for his tea brand, Chaiwala & Co.
Khan, also known as the "Chaiwala," founded his brand after garnering national recognition, combining traditional Pakistani chai with an immersive cultural experience to make his firm unique.
"My goal has always been to represent Pakistan and its culture through something as simple as chai," Khan told The Times of India. With locations around Pakistan and a flagship café in London, his brand is transforming the simple tea shop, or 'chai dhaba', into a global phenomenon.
In an Instagram video posted a few days ago, Khan urged potential franchisees from all over the world to take advantage of the cafe's franchising opportunity in the UK and worldwide.
What distinguishes Chaiwala & Co. is its ability to combine authentic Pakistani chai with the lively energy of local tea stalls. The café captures the busy bustle of Pakistani streets, with décor and ambience that reflects the country's culture.
The expansion to London was a smart move, positioning the brand to appeal not only to expats but also to a broader audience interested in Pakistani culture.
"My journey from a chai vendor to entrepreneur has been difficult, but I am grateful for every opportunity that has come my way," Khan said following his Shark Tank investment announcement.
Following his viral success, Arshad Khan won several modelling assignments before focussing on his business.
