Ratna Pathak Shah calls Sarabhai vs Sarabhai a turning point in her career; says ‘Before the show, I was just somebody in the background’

Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is one of the most loved shows on Indian television and is considered as a cult sitcom. Each and every character from the TV show enjoyed a fanbase and they are still fresh in the minds of the viewers. Seasoned actress, Ratna Pathak Shah, who is known for her acting skills and has featured in many path-breaking roles, is best remembered as Maya Sarabhai from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.The actress doesn't hesitate to accept that Sarabhai.. gave her all the recognition and gives full credit to the stellar writing and direction for the success of the show.
In Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Ratna played the role of an elite mother-in-law who is not fond of her daughter-in-law Monisha's middle class way of living. Recently, while talking to Humans of Bombay in an interview, Ratna Pathak Shah was asked if playing Maya Sarabhai changed her life and the actress shared it changed her career as an earning actor and people started noticing her and giving her work. Before the show, she was just somebody in the background. She also highlighted that Sarabhai had a great script and how the writing was extraordinary.


Talking further about the writers and their exceptional work on the show, Ratna continued that everyone who has watched the show talks about the acting in Sarabhai, but it was the writing that did the magic. She stated that though acting was the visible thing, it's the writing, the direction that made the TV show work. She also acknowledged how the show was presented by the producers and everyone. The senior actress added that the show was confident of itself and mentioned that it came out with a bang which made a difference.
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai aired between 2004 and 2006 and has a stellar cast of Ratna Pathak Shah, Satish Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, Rupali Ganguly, Deven Bhojani amongst others. It returned with a second season on an OTT platform in 2017, but couldn't create the magic.
