The unfortunate demise of singer Somadas has left everyone in a state of shock and grief. The former Star Singer contestant, who was receiving treatment for COVID-19 at Kollam Medical College, reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday (January 31).
Remembering her dearest co-contestant, Star Singer 2008 winner Sonia shared fond memories with the late singer.
"Soon I heard this sad news, our performance from Star Singer struck my mind. In the Nadaka Ganam round, we sang 'Thalakku Meethe Shunyakasham'. In the song, there is a line where Somu chettan sings about death, I couldn't hear it without tears,'' she says.
This performance was unarguably one of the best in the seasons wherein Somadas was spotted in the avatar of a leprosy patient and the emotional performance gained much attention.
Talking about meeting Somadas for the last time on the sets of 'Start Music', Sonia shared that he also fondly spoke about their iconic performance.
"We met on the sets and we had a great time together. Soon after meeting me, Somu said, 'Sonia, you remember our song!'. We spoke much about Star Singer then," she adds.
Sonia also shared that she was someone who has witnessed the huge fan following of Somadas.
"After 'Star Singer', we did some stage shows abroad and people were rushing to watch him sing. Even though he couldn't make it to the finale of the show, he had won many hearts. Many years ago, we did a show in Kerala and the fan base was still the same for him. I was a great fan of his singing, the way he renders high pitch songs were magical. Such a talented singer," Sonia remembers Somadas.
